Radio 980 KMBZ
Saturdays, 1pm to 2pm
“The Wine Cellar”, is part of the ongoing
mission of Rimann Liquors to educate the public and demystify
the joys of wine. On the air since January 2000, the show
is hosted by Marshall Rimann and features interviews and
conversations with winemakers, distillers, brewmasters,
authors and educators from around the world. Recent guests
who have discussed their passion for wine include Chris
and Cathy Benziger, Benziger Family Cellars; Dennis Cakebread,
Cakebread Cellars; Peter Mondavi, Jr., Charles Krug Winery;
Ridge Watson, Joullian Vineyards; and Charlie & Molly Meeker, Meeker Wines.
The appreciation of handcrafted beer has been the subject
of John McDonald of Boulevard Brewing Company, Jim Koch,
founder of Boston Beer Company (Sam Adams) and Steve Dressler
of Sierra Nevada.
Other guests have included Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher,
wine columnists for The Wall Street Journal;
noted cookbook authors Susan Hermann Loomis and Steven
Raichlen and Master Sommelier Doug Frost, wine author
and educator.
Often the show will include other local guests,
typically chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers or others
involved in Kansas City’s culinary arts scene. With
its unique mix of conversation and personalities, the
broadcast is geared toward both the novice in the appreciation
of wine and the oenophile who wants to learn more. “The
Wine Cellar” remains Kansas City’s only radio
show completely dedicated to wine and food: two of the
finer elements in a well-spent life.
