Summer Wine Cocktails

Classic Sangria

  • 1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine
  • 1/4 c. brandy
  • 2 T. sugar
  • 2 oranges, sliced
  • 1/2 lemon, sliced
  • 1 green apple, sliced
  • 1 1/2 c. Club Soda or Sprite

    Combine the wine, brandy, and sugar in a pitcher; stir to dissolve the sugar. Add the sliced fruit.
    Combine all ingredients except the Club Soda. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 1 day in a
    Large pitcher. Add Club Soda just before serving.

Aperol Spritz

  • 1 ½ ounces Aperol
  • 4 ounces Prosecco
  • Orange Wheel

Fill a wine glass with ice. Pour in 1½ ounces of Aperol and 4 ounces of Prosecco. An orange wheel makes an elegant garnish.

Raspberry Rosé Wine Slushy

  • 2 cups Rose wine
  • 3 cups frozen Raspberries
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • ¼ cup raspberry liqueur or raspberry vodka. (can substitute triple sec)
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbs honey

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until very smooth and slushy. Serve immediately.

Moscato Wine Slush

  • 1 bottle, 750ml, Moscato
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen fruit
  • 6 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until very smooth and slush. Excellent fruits to use are peaches, watermelon, mangos and pineapple. Serve immediately.

Sparkling Watermelon Sangria Recipe

This sangria is a good use of a bountiful watermelon crop.

              

  • 4 cups watermelon, cubed and cold
  • 3/4 cups dry white port
  • 1 lime, sliced thin
  • 750ml bottle Moscato, chilled
  • 3 cups lime seltzer water, chilled

 

In a pitcher place 3 cups of the watermelon cubes (saving some for garnish) and white port. Be sure these are cold as they can become mushy when room temp. (You can even freeze them for 30 minutes first.)

Add 8 to 10 slices of lime.

Add the Moscato and seltzer water. Stir with wooden spoon to mix.

Pour into ice-filled glasses and top each glass with a couple pieces of watermelon and a lime slice.
