Weekly Food Finds – November 1st, 2019

Orange Snickerdoodles

  • 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine – softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla 
  • 2 teaspoons Angostura Orange Bitters

Topping:  Flavored Sugar 

  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of pure orange extract

Mix together & stir often until it dries out.  (I did this before I started the cookie dough process).

After the sugar dries out, mix with 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 375°.  

Stir together flour, soda, cream of tartar, and ½ teaspoon salt. Set aside.   Beat butter for 30 Seconds; add the 2 cups sugar and beat till fluffy.  Add eggs, milk, and vanilla; beat well.  Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating till well blended.  Form dough in to 1-inch balls; roll in a the sugar/cinnamon mixture.  Place balls on 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet; flatten slightly with the bottom of a drinking glass.  

Bake in a 375° oven about 8-10 minutes or till light golden.  These should be soft and chewy.

Side Note:  I also like to add 1 teaspoon of pure orange extract ( gives a little more orange flavor) to the dough with the vanilla and bitters!
